On March 7, 1986, 16 year old Melissa Riedell was found deceased in her apartment by her mother. An autopsy revealed possible strangulation and multiple stab wounds. There did not appear to be any forced entry and the door was locked when her mother arrived, there was also no indication of sexual assault or a struggle.
