Shawn Patterson was born on September 7, 1981 in San Diego, California. As a young man, Shawn was very active in sports and the arts. He was a three-sport athlete at Thomas Jefferson Independent School in Joplin, Missouri and received a scholarship to play soccer at Ottawa University in the fall of 2000. Shortly after September 11th, 2001, he chose to join the US Navy. During his time in the Navy, Shawn was selected to a 900 division, named Recruit Chief Petty Officer and successfully completed his Master of Arms in A school training. He returned to Denver, Colorado in 2004 to care for his mother. Shawn was working three jobs and attending Aurora Community College with hopes to attend law school in the future. On November 22, 2005, he was the victim of a random act of inner city violence.
Shawn was shot at 1141 Syracuse St. in Denver.
Shawn had an unwavering loyalty to his friends and an enthusiastic love for life. His uplifting attitude had a tremendously positive affect on everyone he met. He never met a stranger and was always willing to help anyone in need. Shawn’s smile was contagious and his athletic and artistic talents were admired by all. Shawn is, and forever will be, greatly missed by his friends, family and so many of the lives that he impacted so positively. [adapted from Memory-of.com]
