Sherri Majors, 27, was a Certified Nurse Assistant who genuinely liked the elderly and showed compassion for the unfortunate. A free spirit who enjoyed a good laugh, the blue-eyed blonde lived for today. She loved animals. Sherri grew up with a dog named Princess and had a cat named Chelsea. When she died she left three sons: Caleb, then 7, and twins Mitchell and Joel, 5. They are being raised by Sherri’s parents, Everett & Linda Donelson. The boys have named their new puppy “Princess.” On March 18, 1996, following a disagreement with a friend, Sherri left and went to a nearby night spot where she called friends in an effort to get a ride home. She was overheard by truck driver Chester Todd who offered a ride. Sherri’s body was found 1-1/2 days later, beaten, raped and strangled, in a downtown Denver alley between Blake & Market Streets. Detective Dixie Grimes went back to the bar three times with Sherri’s picture until two female patrons fingered Todd who was then tipped by a young dispatcher that police were looking for him. He ditched his truck in Sioux City and is still at large. Todd had served 15 years for murder in Illinois in 1967 and was paroled early. A murder warrant for the arrest of Chester Todd in this case is outstanding.
In February 2011, a man who had checked in to a Las Vegas hospital with Parkinsons Disease told the staff his real name: Chester Todd. He said “I’m wanted for murder in Colorado.” He had been living in Las Vegas under an assumed name. Two Denver detectives went to Las Vegas and arrested him. He reportedly admitted “Yeah, I did it.” They returned Todd to Denver to be prosecuted. As of December 2011, Todd’s defense attorneys have raised the issue of his mental competence to participate in his own defense
