Frye, Elizabeth “Betty” Katherine

Murdered: 1973-06-09

Elizabeth “Betty” Frye, 45, was born in Beardsley, KS and graduated from Girls Catholic High School in Hays. She was an excellent student. After attending Ft. Hays state College, Betty moved to Denver where she first resided at St. Rose’s Residence which was run by nuns. On April 8, 1949, Betty married H. Duane Frye in Denver. They had four children, Janet, Marilyn, Douglas and Gregory. Betty loved to ski and fish. During the ’60s she was a member of the Littleton Monday Musicale. Betty was employed at Honeywell and Duane worked as an engineer at Martin Marietta. “Betty was very self-assured,” says her sister, Jean Brickell of Littleton, CO. “She loved to read and was an excellent seamstress who made many of her own clothes.”
On June 9, 1973, Betty was beaten to death in her home. Husband, Duane, said he found her in a pool of blood in their garage. Initially, it was believed to be a burglary gone bad. Later, Duane was arrested and jailed on suspicion of murder. Bailed out, he was not prosecuted for lack of evidence.
